It was just 1 year ago, only a year ago when I used to be a shy boy (that I still am though ) who used to hide under the bench when it comes on speaking in front of even 4 people. I can’t image from the time of birth but yeah ever since I can remember, I’m a great secret hide-r who use to live in his own world of fantasies with no connection with real world. I don’t know if it’s craziness or what but it’s me.
Even if ever my teachers in the school asked me to read a 30 seconds news headlines after the Morning Prayer, I backed off from that duty too. Maybe it is a fear of stage or fear of speaking in front of crowd or whatever it’s it doesn’t matters because one day I had to overcome it if I already found my future in Web Development and Blogging where your job is to express yourself in front of the whole world.
I don’t have any as such great memories to remember because me and my family never had been on any vacations or winter trips. Neither I travelled alone anywhere without my family. But I finally got some precious memories to remember for whole life in 5 days starting from 17th Jan to 21st Jan.
Actually I went to attend an International Conference that was held in Badhani, Pathankot. Me and my research paper partner Akshay wrote about “Current Scenario of Blogging/Web Development in India”. That topic was totally related to my stream of work so it was easy to put something extra in it with my 1 and a half years experience in blogging
It supposed to be a normal conference that we would attend as others do but some tragedies happened that made it a total blast and worth remember-able
I’ll be explaining the whole scene in this article only but let me first thank Vaishali Singh who was/is/will be the biggest inspiration for me. She is my sister but my teacher first . Only because of her I was able to be a part of that epic conference (that was not actually epic but we made it ). Secondly, I would like to thank my parents. Then I would like to thank Akshay Singh for being a great brother, fellow classmate, my presentation partner and the one who always supported me by pushing me to do more whenever I felt down Then thanks to Surya Pratap Singh Rajawat and Jayant Khushalani for being caring elder brothers and part of my insane laughter sessions Special thanks to these two girls Radhika Bihani and Diksha Joshi for being my Oreo (cookies) partners and taking care of me like a family
My Experience of International Conference & Trip to Dalhousie
We were total 7 people for the journey. Now basic introduction with my journey has already done so let’s start with the real experience . I’ve divided the further parts day wise so that you can imagine everything more clearly
DAY 1 – 17th Jan, 2015
Our train was expected to arrive at 4:20 PM on Jaipur Junction. I woke up very earlier that day because of loads of excitement in me lol. I got ready to reach the platform at 3:30 PM in case train arrives earlier. Adventure began immediately after the call that I got from Akshay in which he said, “Bro our train is late! It’s expected to arrive Jaipur Junction at 8:30 PM but be there around 7:00 in case train’s schedule changes again.”. I was just speechless because the eager to sit in the train and start the fun roundup was eating me from inside . But nevermind, I reached there around 7:00 PM and started waiting for the train.
Waiting… Waiting… Waiting… Wait! What? It’s 9:00 PM and still train has not reached here yet! So finally we got train around 10:30 PM after waiting for additional 1 and a half hour . Then after entering the train, we decided who is going to sit on which seat and then we had our dinner and then I slept (not sure about others because most-probably they would be talking till 2 in the night lol).
DAY 2 – 18th Jan, 2015
My last night’s sleep was not that good because I got top berth to sleep where ventilator was giving cold air blows whole night that gave me little body ache. That wasn’t an issue though. Apparently we had to reach there around 12:00 in the day.
(To be mentioned here: train is already running 6 hours late)
Again expectations broke and we reached Pathankot Cantt around 2:30 PM, means again 2 and a half hour late .
According to our planning, if train was on its actual time then we would reach Pathankot Cantt around 6:00 in the morning and then after getting ready, we would attend the presentation with full energy But we reached the conference venue that was the campus of Sri Sai College of Engineering & Technology, Badhani, Pathankot around 3:00 PM.
That was the last day of conference and most of the researchers and scholars already went off from there. We were really very-very tired but unfortunately we had to present our research paper by that day only because that was the last day. To contribute some energy so that we can present our paper, we had some refreshments and finally reached the conference hall.
Time for Conference!
I don’t know if it’s a rule or what but we got only 6 minutes to present our papers because we are young scholars. I was feeling bit shy though because that was the first time I got to speak on a stage in front of audience. But I somehow managed. Huge thanks to my friend and my research paper partner Akshay for handling the situation when I almost forgot a part of my paper due to stage fear. He presented the last part and finally paper presentation went awesome After the conference senior professors like M. Jain (Department of Mathematics) from I.I.T. Roorkee, India and G.C. Sharma (Department of Mathematics) from I.B.S., Khandari, Agra, India also showed their huge appreciation by giving us great compliments.
Conference Over, FUN TIME!
Conference organizers provided us temporary accommodation in their campus only to stay. We spent our night there and that night is really a life-time memory for us. Those selfies, timeless antakshri sessions and pillow fights really made our day at last after a long and tiring journey
Day finally ended with some lame haunted stories told by Akshay and Surya that made us laugh instead of making us scream lol Then finally we slept.
DAY 3 – 19th Jan, 2015
We planned to wake up earlier in the morning so that we can attend conference wind-up ceremony and then take a bus to Dalhousie. So according to the plan we reached the college first to have breakfast and then went to conference hall to attend conference wind-up ceremony. There, the speech by the chairman of Sri Sai Group of Institutes, Er. S.K. Punj was really impactful and eye-opening. He shared a short summary of his life’s journey so far and that was really inspiring.
Finally we received our certificates after the ceremony
As our plan, our next destination was Dalhousie. We took a bus to reach there. It was a 2 and a half hours journey. But those 2 and a half hours were really worth travelling. Not because of the vomit sickness due to travelling that our bus gave to some of us lol , it was because of those tempting nature’s scenes. Greenery was all around and finally when we reached there, we saw trees, roofs of houses and everything is covered with snow. It was just a WOW moment for me because it was the first time I saw snow everywhere.
After reaching there we started looking for a hotel to stay and successfully found one in very short time.
After reaching the hotel, without wasting a single minute we left for Dalhousie visit. Some pictures here:

After that we went to visit the market. Market was small with about 25-30 shops only but there were so many unique things that you can buy to gift someone or keep them with you as a mark of memory. I was looking for a thumb ring but didn’t find one that I wanted. No issues. Overall it was a great experience with snow and market full of unique things. Then we returned to hotel, had dinner and obviously some fun and finally slept.
DAY 4 – 20th Jan, 2015
It was our day of Jaipur return. Again, our train was from Pathankot Cantt at 8:00 PM. So we still had almost half day to visit more places in Dalhousie. We went to Snow Point that’s a snow mountain with a waterfall at its top. Ain’t it sounds interesting? Yes it does!
We started our journey to waterfall with a blend of hiking, gymnastics and little bum sleigh ride lol. It was an extremely slippery area because of hardened snow that formed a layer of ice over the rocky pathway. Our shoes were normal casual shoes that we use to wear in college and outside and because of it adventure doubled. Every single wrong step led us to fall down. But we managed to climb up to the top by holding each other’s hands and by taking support of nearby rocks and trees. Scene was truly fantastic. It seemed like heaven is at the top of the mountain. The green shrubs and trees covered with white snow and those small water streams were really incredible. Here are some images:

Finally we reached near the water fall, not at the top because the pathway after it was bit dangerous to climb without proper equipment and support.
Anyway, how could we forget to take a ‘group-selfie’
Now it was the time to take a bus to Pathankot. It takes about 3-4 hours to reach Pathankot from Dalhousie. We left very earlier with fear of train’s unstable schedule in mind as we got to face some problems during our going journey that I already mentioned above.
Train is here fella!
We got the train. Fortunately this time train was running on time. We decided our seats and berths to sleep and sat there and started our as usual general talks before we sleep.
Wait! What’s that sound?
I thought everything is over, trip is over, and adventure is over, now just reach home and get back to work and family life. But no! Still an experience was waiting to create a life time memory in our minds. We heard some loud sound just beside our cabin of two men. Actually a man was laying on the just opposite top berth of our cabin and was giving some bad indications to a small girl sitting in the next cabin. She started crying and complained her dad about it. So it was her dad and that culprit.
Almost every person heard that incident in our compartment. Willing thing happened when that culprit got beaten by that girl’s dad, her uncle and by other males sitting near them. Then they gave him to the police on the next station. Environment in our whole compartment immediately turned silent with aggression in mind because of that person’s cheap act. I salute to those people who beat him for his acts because that was his return gift.
Learned so many things from that incident. I realized that there are still many people in this world who feel good in doing such dirty things. No matter how much our world gets developed, how much we study, how much we proceed in life, how much we expect from whole human society, there are still people who don’t care about Nation’s progress & pride. So what we need is awareness. If you see any person doing such female harassing acts then that must not be tolerated. Raise your voice, take immediate action against it. Look for any police officer near you. If you are in a train then it’s advised to complain TTE (Travelling Ticket Examiner) about it or any army or police person if you find in the train.
My advice if anyone is planning to travel to Dalhousie
I encountered some minute problems during this trip. But fortunately I had the right things to deal with them. Some of them are:
- Battery Draining Problems: I often faced problems with phone’s low battery. In such trips chances are less that you’ll get any way to charge your phone. Don’t let the battery drain problem ruin your even little fun during the trip. If you take pictures from your phone then this problem could be a throat’s spine for you, unless your phone’s battery backup is excellent. My power bank came in handy to fight this problem. So it’s recommended to take an extra battery or a power bank with you.
- Body Aches: In such cold and hilly areas it’s normal to get cold, body aches and fever easily if you are from a place of warm climate. I got so much pain in my cervical region around the spine because of stretch in muscle while carrying my luggage. In that case, Anti-Inflammatory & Pain-Killer spray was a life saver for me. There are chances to get headaches so always carry some Ibuprofen & Paracetamol tablets with you. Some people feel dizziness and nausea while traveling so always carry some Antiemetic drugs such as Domperidone tablets with you.
- Proper clothes and accessories: Dalhousie is a very cold place with temperature in minus degrees most of the time. So always carry warm woolens. But don’t overload your bags with so many clothes because you’ll have to pick your luggage anyway. Take limited things with you to reduce weight over your shoulders. Take a pair of Trekking Shoes with you if you want to move using your feet. Unlike us, if you know what I mean
- Unstable Railway Schedule: it’s common to get into problem because of change in Train’s schedule. So always reach the station at least 1 hour before the expected time.
I hope you liked this article. Feel free to share your views about it. And don’t forget to share your experience in the comments section below if you ever got any chance to being at any hill station.
